August 4-6I stayed at Hostel Trust Ever which was located in Trustevere, a small neighborhood just outside of Rome. The hostel was amazing and I met some of the nicest people on my trip thus far! Although I was only there for 2 nights, it was a city I'll never forget. I'll also never forget the stench of one of the girls in my room...I was very thankful I brought my favorite essential oil with me. My first day I wandered around the neighborhood of Trustevere and got dinner by myself at da Ostello Pizzeria. Even though I had met some cool new people at the hostel, I decided to treat myself to a nice meal. Eating alone at a restaurant is something that I've done frequently while traveling solo, but not something I would typically do at home. It's definitely something outside of my comfort zone, but the more often I do it, the more confident I become. Learning to be OK with being alone is something I think is very important. It helps to build my confidence and see a different perspective of whats around me. I have met a lot of solo travelers who have shared that they would never eat in a restaurant alone, or haven't because they feel scared or awkward. Most people share that they "wouldn't know what to do" with themselves. I typically will people watch, listen in on nearby conversations (even those in other languages, to see if I can comprehend anything they are saying), check my phone every once and a while, and look at how the restaurant workers interact with each other/customers. It doesn't seem very entertaining, but you'd be surprised at the things you can witness that you typically would oversee. If you've never eaten alone, try it! That night I had met two really sweet girls from London, Biz and Charis, Educardo, from Brazil, a German woman named Kate (got her phone stolen), and an American guy named Evan from Tennessee (pizza pic man). Evan told us about exploring Rome in the middle of the night to avoid tourists and the heat. Biz, Charis and I decided the next day to explore part of Rome the next day during the day, and then adventure out at night to explore the rest. During the day we went to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and the Vatican City. It was cool to see but very hot and crowded. We tried to eat at the famous Suppli restaurant La Casa de Suppli but were super disappointed to find out they were on vacation :( Instead, I went to the grocery store and made myself chicken parm & pasta. Food in Rome was very expensive- by far the most expensive on my trip thus far! That afternoon we climbed to see the beautiful sunset and a panoramic view of the city. My favorite part of my trip to Rome was our night out adventuring. A group of 7 of us all decided to go out to see the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, & Trevi Fountain. It was so cool to see them all lit up, and without all the touristy crowds. I left Rome and headed to Slovenia...on a 19 hour bus ride...from HELL. To be continued...
